C is for Curriculum
Letter of the week:
- We will use the Letter People to teach beginning phonics. Each week a new Letter Person will come to school and the class will concentrate on that letter sound.
- We will learn to write the letter of the week using Handwriting Without Tears in the Zaner-Bloser (ball and stick) style.
- We will use a wide variety of children's literature relating to each letter and weekly theme.
- We will focus on counting skills, patterns, daily calendar, estimation, and graphing.
- We will use Handwriting Without Tears to strengthen fine motor skills while learning letters.
- We focus on many skills to further fine motor coordination like cutting, gluing, play-doh, and also name writing practice.
- There will be structured learning centers and unstructured free play times during the day.
- We also use large and small group settings.
- We will have a scheduled show and share time each week.
- Each child will get to be star of the week.
